These images were rendered using the progressive refinement feature of the idTech 4 engine.

To try them out yourself, run the following from the console: r_lightSourceRadius 12;screenshot 1920 1200 1024

What this does is set the jitter radius for lights (doesn't affect the sun light), and then take a screenshot with 1024 frames averaged together. You get a result that is entirely uncharacteristic of the idTech4 engine.
